MCP Newsletter Nov. 27-Dec. 1, 2017

December 1, 2017 - 13 Kislev 5778

Dear MCP Parents,

This week at Morah Carol’s Place, we started learning about Chanukah!

The True Blue Twos introduced Chanukah and their new color of the month: Blue! They are also finishing up their middah of the month, gratitude, with some amazing projects.

The Shining Stars learned all about dreidels and chanukiahs this week, with awesome arts & crafts projects and books.

In Tefillah with Morah Carol, our students have been talking all about Chanukah! Morah Carol has been teaching them the brochot we say for Chanukah, so they’ll be ready to perform them at our family Chanukah party on December 17th. They’ve also been learning about how brave and strong the Maccabees were, when they were defending the Jewish people and the Beit HaMikdash (Holy Temple).

Morah Carol discussed that the Beit HaMikdash is not here right now, but will come back when Mashiach comes. We are going to try to do lots of mitzvot and practice good middot so the Beit HaMikdash can be rebuilt.

In Middot Yoga this week, our students learned all about the tradition of lighting Chanukah candles, and did “Candle Pose” (our own variation of the traditional Tree Pose), pretending to be little Chanukah candles. Morah Adina also discussed how courage is a theme of Chanukah, because the Maccabees had to be so brave! Our students did Lion Pose (one of their favorites!), because lions are courageous and nothing scares a lion.

In Hebrew Through Movement, our students reviewed our newest command: לשים (L’seem/put). They practiced this command by doing the Hokey Pokey (“L’seem your left yad in, l’seem your left yad out...You do the Hokey Pokey and l’heestovav. That’s what it’s all about!”)

Next week, we will introduce a new command: לתת (L’tate/give). Our students are doing brilliantly with remembering all the new and old commands!

A huge mazal tov to the Sonsino family, the Miller family, and the Karsh family on the births of their new sons! We are so happy for you. And mazal tov to Yehonatan, David, Eitan, and Rochelli on their new little brothers!

We would like to extend the warmest welcome to Morah Angela Davydov, who has just joined the Infant Room as a teacher. We are so happy to have her, and thrilled that she’s part of the MCP team!

Reminders:

December 12th is School Picture Day! Be sure to drop your child off in the outfit you want them to be wearing in their school pictures on that day.

Dreidels & Donuts, our first-ever family Chanukah event, takes place on Sunday, December 17th! This event will take place at Morah Carol’s Place at Or VeShalom, from 11-12:30, and is for MCP families only.

A special thanks to the Morah Carol’s Parents’ Group committee for helping to organize this fantastic event.

If you would like to help sponsor Dreidels & Donuts, please contact Carol (617-275-3021 or morahcarol@morahcarolsplace.com). We look forward to seeing you there!

Our host synagogue, Or VeShalom, is hosting their annual Hanukkah Bazaar on December 10th, from 11am-5pm. MCP families are welcome to attend!

We look forward to seeing your precious children again next Monday!

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Carol & Morah Adina
