Dear MCP Parents,
We are so happy that school is back up and running! We are so thankful that everyone weathered the storm safely. We might not have had a full week together, but we still accomplished plenty of learning and fun!
We didn’t waste any time this week; we jumped right back into our Rosh Hashanah learning and preparations!
The True Blue Twos have been learning all about Rosh Hashanah symbols, and practicing independence in some of their art projects. Check out their awesome art on their board in the hallway!
The Shining Stars continued to learn about Rosh Hashanah with fun stories and sensory activities, like painting/stamping with apples. We are so excited for you to take home all of their adorable Rosh Hashanah art!
The Shining Stars have also begun a new Hebrew program with Morah Carol, which takes place right after our Morning Tefillah assembly. In this special Hebrew program, Morah Carol has been teaching them about Hebrew letters and Rosh Hashanah. They’ve also learned the types of shofar blasts we hear on Rosh Hashanah:
תקיעה/Tekiah: One long blast
שברים/Shevarim: Three short blasts
תרועה/Teruah: Nine quick blasts
Ask your children if they remember how many blasts they will hear all together on Rosh Hashanah; the answer is
100!
In Hebrew Through Movement, our students reviewed previous commands with no problem. They also learned a new command: לְהִסְתוֹבֵב (L’heestovave/spin). Our children had lots of fun with לִקְפּוֹץ (Leekfotz/hop) and לְהִסְתוֹבֵב (L’heestovave/spin), jumping and spinning around the school lobby. There were lots of giggles!
Next week, we will be having some Rosh Hashanah specialties, in place of the normal specialities:
A Rosh Hashanah puppet show and song time with Morah Adina
Rosh Hashanah sensory exploration with pomegranates
In other news, Or VeShalom will be a hosting point for Operation Isaiah, starting September 18th. Operation Isaiah is an amazing project that collaborates with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and unites our community in caring for the hungry in Atlanta (such as children, veterans, seniors, and working families). You can find the Operation Isaiah food donation bin in the school lobby, across from the office. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
We’re excited to announce that MCP will be hosting a table at the Shabbos Project’s Great Big Challah Bake this year! This women-only event will take place on October 26, 2017 from 7-9pm at the MJCCA (admission is $18/person). We have a limited number of seats at the MCP table, so RSVP! You can reserve a seat by sending an $18 check in to school, and emailing roselyn.paskow@gmail.com.
As a side note: Parents, we know how much you love and care about your children, and how involved you want to be in how they’re doing throughout the day. However, it can be distracting and challenging for teachers to answer every text message, while still giving your children the quality care and attention they deserve. Please feel free to text teachers, but know that they will not be able to get back to you during the school day. If there is ever a pressing issue, concern, or question, please contact the office right away and we will be more than happy to help--it’s what we’re here for!
A quick reminder: Next week, we will be closing at 3pm on Wednesday, September 20th, in observance of Rosh Hashanah. We will open again at normal hours the following Monday (Sept. 25th).
We can’t wait to see your lovely children again on Monday!
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Carol & Morah Adina
