Dear MCP Parents,
This week, we’ve been having a blast learning all about Yom Kippur and Sukkot!
The True Blue Twos have been focusing on the theme of saying “I’m sorry,” and forgiving each other. They’ve been reading stories about forgiveness, creating amazing Yonah and the Whale art projects, and learning a Yonah and the Whale song. They’ve begun learning about Sukkot as well.
The Shining Stars have been creating all kinds of amazing Sukkot artwork. From gorgeous sukkah collages (see their hallway bulletin board) to painted etrogim & lulavim, their artwork is sure to bring simcha to your sukkah this year! They also did fun Sukkot-themed sensory projects this week, like creating edible graham cracker sukkahs.
During morning Tefillah assembly, Morah Carol has been teaching our students the story of Yonah and the Whale, in preparation for Yom Kippur. She’s been discussing the story with them, using these questions:
Where did Hashem want Yonah to go?
Did Yonah listen?
Can we run away from Hashem?
Did Yonah do the right thing in the end of the story?
Talk through these questions with your child/children and see if they remember the answers!
The kids enjoyed Hebrew Through Movement with Morah Adina this week. This week, our students reviewed the Hebrew commands we’ve been working on:
לשבת - L’shevet/Sit
לקום - L’koom/Stand
ללכת - L’lechet/Walk
להרים - L’harim/Lift
להוריד - L’horeed/Lower
להסתובב - L’heestovav/Spin
לקפוץ - Likfotz/Hop
As a reminder, we have a food donation bin stationed by the back entrance (near the office) for the Operation Isaiah food drive. Feel free to drop off unopened canned goods, dried lentils and beans, whole grain pastas, and other such items. (Contact the office at mcpadina@gmail.com for a complete list of the items they need.) Operation Isaiah is run by the Jewish Family & Career Service of Atlanta, in cooperation with the Atlanta Food Bank.
MCP is baking challah at the Shabbos Project’s Great Big Challah Bake, happening on October 26th! This women’s only event runs from 7-9pm at the MJCCA. The MCP table is filling up fast--so register soon! To register for one of the remaining seats at our table, send in an $18 check to school and email roselyn.paskow@gmail.com.
One last reminder: MCP will have an early 3pm dismissal on Wednesday, October 4th, in observance of Sukkot. School will resume at regular hours on Monday, October 9th.
We can’t wait to see your fantastic children again next Monday!
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Carol & Morah Adina
