MCP Newsletter October 9-11, 2017

October 11, 2017 - 21 Tishrei 5778

Dear MCP Parents,

This week at MCP has been all about Simchat Torah!

The True Blue Twos learned about what Simchat Torah is, and how we celebrate it. They had so much fun painting paper Torah cut-outs, in honor of Simchat Torah. They also learned about primary and secondary colors. Our students did color mixing, to learn more about their “Color of the Month”: Orange. They learned how to make the secondary color orange from the primary colors of red and yellow.

The Shining Stars have been learning about the customs of Simchat Torah, and have been learning all about the Torah. Our students learned that we dance with the Torah on Simchat Torah and wave flags. They also learned that the Torah is a scroll, and discussed what a scroll is. The Shining Stars made beautiful flags to wave on Simchat Torah. Here are the new vocabulary words they learned this week: דגל (Degel/Flag), שירים (Shirim/Songs), and ריקודים (Rikudim/Dances).

The kids got to have an extra special Simchat Torah treat with Morah Carol this week! Morah Carol led them in HaKafot with their flags in the OVS sanctuary, getting them in the spirit to put the simcha (joy) in Simchat Torah! They also got to see the real Torahs, and Morah Carol taught them that the Torah was given to us, and it’s for the Jewish people. Morah Carol also taught the Shining Stars the first pasuk of Bereishit: “Bereishit bara Elokim ait ha’shamayim v’ait ha’aretz.” (“In the beginning, G-d created the Heavens and the Earth.”) Ask your child to say it with you! Another question to ask your children: What’s the first letter in the Torah? (Answer: Bet.)

Have you heard about the latest programming at MCP? Starting October 16th, we’ll be introducing three new specialty programs:

  • Step-Up to Kindergarten with Morah Carol--This Kindergarten-prep program gives 5-6 year-olds the “step-up” they need in building foundational Kindergarten skills. This is a 24-week program that covers a broad array of subjects, both English & Hebrew/Jewish. It’s not limited to MCP families--so if you know of anyone with Kindergarten-aged kids, let them know! Check out our website or Facebook page for more information, and feel free to call the office with any questions.

  • Sports & Karate with Coach Mike--Coach Mike is a well-known and much-loved high school basketball coach who works in the Buckhead and Sandy Springs area. He has worked with many preschools in the area, including Temple Sinai and Beth Jacob. He also teaches nutrition classes for kids, and works as a personal children’s instructor. We are thrilled that he will be doing Sports & Karate with our students!

  • Tap-ballet through Studio Go--(Begins Oct. 18th) We are so excited to offer your children this fantastic program, through Studio Go!

You can find flyers for all of these programs under the bulletin boards in the school hallway. Register while there are still spaces left!

Parents, don’t forget to click the photos link in the weekly email newsletter! You can see your adorable children in action, and follow more closely what they’ve been up to during the week.

Reminder: School will resume on Monday, October 16th, at regular school hours.

Enjoy the holiday! We eagerly look forward to seeing your amazing children again on Monday.

Chag Sameach,
