MCP Newsletter October 23-27, 2017

October 27, 2017 - 7 Cheshvan 5778

Dear MCP Parents,

This week at MCP, we learned all about pumpkins and Parshat Lech Lecha!

The True Blue Twos learned about pumpkins with fun pumpkin-themed art. They also got to see a real pumpkin, and touch real pumpkin seeds. As part of a sensory activity, the True Blue Twos got to paint the pumpkin seeds (and the pumpkin, too)!

The Shining Stars learned about pumpkins with fun sensory exploration. They touched the outside of pumpkins, and got to see--and feel!--the insides as well. They dug the seeds out of the pumpkins and we sent the seeds home for you to enjoy with them. The Shining Stars also got to have a pumpkin hunt, in which they looked for miniature pumpkins hidden all around the playground. A big thanks to Julie Bitton for bringing us the pumpkins for this special activity! The Shining Stars have also continued learning the English alphabet, the sound each letter makes, and words that begin with that letter. They are up to the letter M.

In Tefillah with Morah Carol, our students learned about Parshat Lech Lecha. Morah Carol taught them that Avraham and Sarah were the first Jews, but they originally had different names--Avram and Sarai. When they took Hashem, they also took the Hebrew letter hey from Hashem’s name and added it to their own, becoming Avraham and Sarah. Morah Carol taught them what Hachnasat Orchim means and that we learned this mitzvah of welcoming guests from Avraham and Sarah. Our students learned that Avraham’s tent had four doors, one in every direction, so he could always be welcoming in guests from everywhere. They also learned that Sarah’s challah had a special brocha (blessing) to stay fresh all week, so that it was always ready for guests. Nowadays, we have guests on Shabbat and do the mitzvah of Hachnasat Orchim that we learned from Avraham and Sarah.

The children learned a new Hebrew command in Hebrew Through Movement this week: לגעת (l’ga’at/touch). They had a lot of fun learning the Hebrew words for body parts, while using our new Hebrew command (for example, “L’ga’at your rosh!”--“Touch your head!”). Our students are doing amazingly well in Hebrew Through Movement, and we are very proud of them!

Parents, please note: Coach Mike will not be here on Monday, October 30th or Monday, November 6th for karate. We will resume karate on November 13th. Sports will continue as normal on Tuesday, October 31st, but we will not have sports on Tuesday, November 7th.

We can’t wait to see your incredible children again on Monday!

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Carol & Morah Adina
