MCP Newsletter November 6-10, 2017

November 10, 2017 - 21 Cheshvan 5778

Dear MCP Parents,

We had another fantastic week at Morah Carol’s Place!

The True Blue Twos have been focused on the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle this week. They’ve heard the story, sang songs related to it, and done fun brown bear art projects. They tied the story into their color of the month, חום/choom (brown).

The Shining Stars began learning about their new theme of the month, “Giving Thanks.” They have begun an ongoing gratitude booklet that they’ve been working on this week. If you have any child-friendly magazines they can use for upcoming art projects, please send them in! The Shining Stars have continued learning the alphabet and letter sounds, and have reached the letter W! Their seeds from last week’s science unit plant project have begun to sprout, and can be seen in the centerpieces on the classroom tables.

In Tefillah with Morah Carol this week, our students learned Parshat Chayei Sarah. The children learned about kind little Rivkah. Yitzchak grows up and needs a wife. So Avraham sends his friend Eliezer to look for a wife for Yitzchak. Eliezer knew Rivkah was the wife for Yitzchak because she was so kind that she not only gave him water to drink, but she gave to all his camels as well.

Questions to ask your child about the parsha:

  • Who needed a wife? (Answer: Yitzchak)

  • Who became Yitzchak’s wife? (Answer: Rivkah)

  • Rivkah gave Eliezer and the camels water with what? (Answer: Her special pitcher)

This week, our students learned about the middah (character trait) of אמת/Emet (Honesty) in Middot Yoga with Morah Adina. They did their warm-up stretch, worked on breathing with our special breathing-boats activity, heard the story of the Honest Woodcutter, and did yoga stretches that went along with the story.

In Hebrew Through Movement, our children reviewed our latest command: לגעת - L’gaat/touch. Next week, we will be introducing a new command: לשים - L’seem/put. They are doing so well in Hebrew Through Movement, and learning faster than we can teach them!

We are pleased to announce that MCP will be having a school picture day for all our students, on Tuesday, December 12th. We will send out reminders closer to School Picture Day. For now, mark your calendars!

We look forward to seeing your precious children on Monday!

Shabbat Shalom!
